In a bid to maximise the reach of the new electricity waiver initiative, UP Power Corporation Chairman Dr Ashish Goyal has issued strict instructions to departmental officials to widely publicise the 'Electricity Bill Relief Scheme.' During a review meeting held at Shakti Bhawan on Tuesday, the Chairman emphasised the need for a proactive approach to register eligible consumers and ensure the collection of outstanding dues.

Key Directives On Relief Scheme

Dr Goyal described the scheme, which launched across the state on December 1, as a significant opportunity for 'never paid' and 'long unpaid' consumers, as well as those involved in theft cases.

Scheme Benefits: For the first time, the scheme offers a 100 per cent interest waiver along with a significant discount on the principal amount (25 per cent).

Incentives: Consumers will receive greater discounts for early registration and payment.

Theft Cases: The scheme provides relief and exemption from legal proceedings for all types of electricity theft cases.

Strategy For Implementation

The Chairman directed that the scheme must reach every single consumer with the cooperation of the district administration and other departments.

Personal Outreach: Officials are instructed to contact every defaulter personally and via phone to persuade them to avail of the benefits.

Micro-Planning: A micro-plan must be created to engage every personnel agency. In areas with a high density of defaulters, special strategies must be employed.

Publicity: Awareness campaigns should be conducted through meter readers, feeder managers, pamphlets, and other communication channels.

Collection Targets: The Chairman stated that bill collection targets must be met under all circumstances.

Smart Meters: It was strictly directed that any meter replacement must be done using only smart meters.

Infrastructure And Online Payments: All Discoms (Distribution Companies) were instructed to take immediate action on transformer damage; negligence in this area will not be tolerated. Additionally, efforts must be made to increase online payments.
