In a significant boost to inclusive and quality education, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to expand its network of Sarvodaya schools by establishing new residential campuses in nine districts from the academic session 2025-26. These schools will offer free education, accommodation, meals, and essential facilities to approximately 2,000 meritorious students from poor, deprived, and rural backgrounds.

According to J Ram, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, the new Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalayas will begin classes from Grade VI to VIII in Mathura, Ballia, Pilibhit, Mainpuri, Amroha, Maharajganj, Ambedkar Nagar, Mankapur (Gonda), and Sarwan Kheda (Kanpur Dehat).

These schools are spread across five-acre campuses and are equipped with modern educational facilities, including smart classrooms, computer labs, science laboratories, libraries, AI and aero-modelling workshops.

The expansion brings the total number of Sarvodaya schools in the state to 109 across 62 districts, up from the existing 100 schools in 58 districts. Residential amenities are also being upgraded in 45 existing schools, with plans to extend classes up to Grade XII from the next academic year.

Sarvodaya schools follow a reservation-based admission system, with 60 per cent seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, 25 per cent for Other Backwards Classes, and 15 per cent for the General Category. Additionally, 85 per cent of admissions are reserved for students from rural areas.

The schools also offer Abhyudaya coaching for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and CUET, along with English speaking courses, skill development training, and sports facilities to ensure holistic development.

With this expansion, the number of students benefiting from the scheme is expected to reach 37,000 in the 2025–26 academic year.
