Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh has recorded a significant shift in employment trends over the past eight years, with the state government attributing the progress to policy-driven governance and sustained economic reforms.

According to official data, Uttar Pradesh’s unemployment rate has dropped sharply, from a high of 19 per cent to just 2.4 per cent. The government claims this decline reflects the impact of targeted employment policies, investment promotion, and large-scale skill development initiatives.

The state’s GCC Policy 2025 has set a target of creating over two lakh new jobs by fostering a favourable environment for global companies. Alongside this, the UP Employment Mission has provided jobs to 1.25 lakh people within a year, accelerating the state’s job creation pace.

The MSME sector has emerged as a major driver of employment growth. Currently, Uttar Pradesh hosts more than 96 lakh MSME units, which together have generated over 2 crore jobs. In the past year alone, this sector has created 18 lakh new employment opportunities, strengthening both rural and urban economies.

Skill development initiatives have also played a crucial role. Under the state’s Skill Development Mission, 14 lakh youth have received training, with 5.66 lakh securing direct employment. Officials say the availability of skilled manpower is enabling industries to scale operations quickly.

Women’s participation in the workforce has seen notable growth, with their share in industrial employment now at 25 per cent. The government states that increasing female employment has contributed to social empowerment, family income growth, and improved gender parity.

Events like Employment Mahakumbh 2025 and financial support schemes have further strengthened transparency and stability in the labour market, providing job seekers with minimum wage assurance and social security benefits.

Officials highlight that rural regions have witnessed visible improvement as well. With more job opportunities being created locally, youth migration to cities has declined, and women’s participation has boosted household incomes in villages.

The government maintains that these developments reflect Uttar Pradesh’s steady progress towards its goal of becoming a developed state by 2047. It asserts that sustained policy-driven planning and strong governance will continue to drive the state’s economic and social transformation.
