Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is no longer just an energy-consuming state but is advancing towards becoming a pioneer of 'green energy' technology. Under the 'Uttar Pradesh Green Hydrogen Policy 2024', the state government has prepared a comprehensive action plan to strengthen the research and startup ecosystem.

As part of this strategy, two state-of-the-art Centres of Excellence (CoE) will be established in the state, and young people will receive annual financial assistance for 5 years for innovation in the green hydrogen sector.

The government's main focus is to reduce the cost of production and storage of green hydrogen. Two CoEs will be established in collaboration with prestigious national institutions. Each centre will receive 100 per cent government assistance of up to Rs 50 crore.

Scope of Research: High-end labs focused on the transport, safe storage, and efficient use of green hydrogen will be developed here. These centres will directly create indigenous solutions tailored to industry needs.

To promote innovation, the Yogi government has made significant funding available for young innovators. Green hydrogen startups associated with recognised incubators will be given financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh every year for 5 years.

The aim is to promote research-based entrepreneurship so that young scientists can establish new and affordable startups for future energy needs. Uttar Pradesh is set to play a crucial role in fulfilling India's pledge to achieve 'Net Zero' emissions by 2070.

1. Gorakhpur Plant: The state's first green hydrogen plant has already been inaugurated in Gorakhpur, which will reduce annual carbon emissions by 500 tonnes.

Through research and startups, the state will not only meet its own energy needs cleanly but will also be capable of providing affordable technology to other states and countries.
