The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is working to further improve the distance between Lucknow and Nepal. The NHAI announced plans to construct a four-lane highway from Barabanki to Rupaidiha (a town in the Bahraich district, near the India-Nepal Border). The project is expected to cost just about Rs 150 crore and is expected to be completed in three years.

The new highway, which will cover a distance of 150 kilometres, will reduce the travel time to Nepal from more than three hours to two hours and also boost business activities from Nepal. The highway to Ayodhya has already been improved by the authorities, which is helping the pilgrims to visit Ram Temple in Ayodhya with ease.

The process of land acquisition and tender has been fast-tracked by the NHAI. The project director Saurabh Chaurasia said that one-way traffic will continue during the highway construction. He also said that after acquiring the land, work will be done on the green field on the lines of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway.
