Mirzapur Accident: Six pilgrims were killed after they were struck by the Howrah-Kalka Mail train while crossing the railway line at Chunar Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur on Wednesday morning, jagran.com reported.

Gomoh-Prayagraj Barwadih passenger train, coming from Sonbhadra, arrived at platform number four at around 9:15 am on Wednesday. The pilgrims aboard had come to Chunar for the Kartik Purnima bath. After disembarking at platform number four, they began crossing the railway line to go to platform number three in the opposite direction when the incident happened.

The GRP and RPF are working to identify the deceased.chunar

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the accident in Mirzapur and expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. CM Yogi further directed SDRF and NDRF teams to reach the spot and expedite relief work. The Chief Minister also directed proper treatment for the injured, as per CM's office.

Meahwhile, the South East Central Railway on Wednesday said the death toll in the Bilaspur train accident has risen to 11, and 20 injured people have been getting treatment at a hospital. The railway authorities also said that the operations have resumed at the site, near Bilaspur station, where an MEMU train collided with a stationary goods train on Tuesday. At rround 4 pm, the MEMU (mainline electric multiple unit) passenger train rammed into a goods train from behind near Bilaspur station, leaving its first coach (engine assembled coach) climbing onto the cargo wagon with a thunderous jolt.
