UP Weather: Uttar Pradesh has been reeling under the impact of relentless monsoon rains since the start of August, with no sign of significant relief so far. While the showers initially brought a much-needed break from the sweltering summer heat, the situation has rapidly deteriorated. Continuous downpours have triggered flood-like conditions across several districts, severely affecting daily life and posing serious safety risks.
In the past 24 hours alone, Bijnor recorded an alarming 245 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state. The downpour has caused rivers such as the Ganga and Yamuna to swell above the danger mark, submerging low-lying areas and flooding homes. Train services in the Bareilly division have also been disrupted, and road travel remains risky in several regions.
The rain has not only affected infrastructure but has also turned deadly. Eight rain-related deaths have been reported from Prayagraj, Badaun, Kheri, and Amroha. One particularly tragic incident occurred in Prayagraj, where seven young boys were swept away while bathing in the Ganga and Sasurkhaderi rivers. Only two were rescued by locals, the remaining five drowned
UP Weather: Schools Shut, Alerts Issued Across State
In response to the worsening conditions, authorities have declared holidays for schools up to Class 8 in the entire Bareilly division and Kheri district. In Bijnor, schools from Class 1 to 12 across all education boards have been closed following an order from the District Magistrate.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several weather alerts, warning of continued rainfall and thunderstorms across the state. A red alert has been issued for six districts – Bijnor, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, and Shahjahanpur where extremely heavy rainfall is expected.

An orange alert has been issued for 11 districts including Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Amroha, Badaun, and Kheri, warning of very heavy rain. Meanwhile, another 11 districts including Noida, Meerut, Hapur, and Aligarh are under a yellow alert for heavy rain.
Additionally, 52 districts have been placed under a lightning and thunderstorm alert, with residents advised to stay indoors and avoid flooded areas.
UP Weather: Check Which Districts Will See Rain Today
The IMD has predicted that the intensity of rainfall may begin to taper off starting Thursday. However, on Wednesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is still likely in western Uttar Pradesh, while parts of eastern UP may receive lighter showers.
Looking ahead, from August 7 onward, only six districts remain under a yellow alert. If the rain eases as expected, the state may soon face another challenge: rising humidity and a return of heat, as temperatures are forecasted to climb once the rain stops.
