The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts dense fog across many districts of Uttar Pradesh in the morning hours for the next few days, with gradual clearing expected later in the day. Intense cold conditions are expected to ease starting January 5. However, a western disturbance might bring light rain and drizzle to western Uttar Pradesh on January 6. A temperature drop on January 7 could intensify foggy conditions in the state.
Meteorologist Dr Atul Kumar Singh stated that the transition of cold north-western winds to easterly winds has caused a slight increase in temperatures, but dense fog will continue to affect visibility and weather conditions.
Meerut recorded the state’s lowest maximum temperature at 12.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Barabanki at 12.5 degrees Celsius. The intense cold was also felt in regions like Ballia, Deoria, Kushinagar, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj and Kanpur, where dense fog further hampered daily activities.
