Uttar Pradesh: A bizarre incident has come to light in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki, where a wedding was called off just hours after completing 'seven vows' of a marital bond and moments before the 'bidai' ceremony after the bride's family allegedly found out that the groom was associated with the transgender (Kinnar) community.

The wedding procession ('baraat') arrived on Friday in a village, falling under the jurisdiction of Kothi Thana police station. The wedding began with rituals and traditional ceremonies, and proceeded through the night without any disturbance.

However, the atmosphere suddenly changed during the early morning hours of Saturday, when the bride's family received information about the groom's gender identity, bringing the festivities to a sudden halt, Times of India reported.

When the bride's family received information about the groom's gender identity, they sought the groom for clarification, but he denied it. The situation reportedly escalated before the 'bidai' ceremony when a group of transgender individuals came for blessings and recognised the groom as a member of their community. Following this, the wedding was called off, the report added.

Several guests and some members from the groom's side left the venue. In an attempt to settle the matter, the groom's family urged the bride's family to maintain their dignity and stay silent by offering Rs 23,000.
As the news spread, police from the local station arrived at the venue and tried to calm both families, preventing the matter from escalating further. Officials stated that neither the groom's family nor the bride's family has filed a complaint against, and hence no legal action will be taken.
