In a dramatic twist to a case that initially sparked outrage, police in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, have uncovered that the alleged gang rape and shooting of a 45-year-old woman was entirely fabricated. Nearly 10 days after her claims of abduction, rape, and an attempt on her life, investigations have revealed that the story was staged in a deliberate attempt to falsely frame a politician and his son.
The incident was first reported on 30 March 2025, when the woman alleged she was kidnapped, gang-raped, shot, and then left to die. Her claims included serious accusations against a local politician, his son, and unidentified individuals. An FIR was registered under serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including charges of gang rape, attempted murder, and kidnapping as per a report by HT.
However, as police delved deeper into the case, discrepancies emerged. Bareilly’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Manush Pareek confirmed that forensic analysis of the so-called bullet injury showed no trace of gunpowder, casting doubt on her shooting claim.
Bullet Was Surgically Implanted
Under interrogation, the woman eventually confessed that the bullet was surgically implanted in her body to make her story appear credible. According to the police, a local quack named Sharif Khan carried out the procedure with help from Rohtash, a former district hospital worker and her known accomplice. The plan was hatched after qualified doctors reportedly refused to participate in the scheme.
“They assumed that once a bullet wound was presented, the police and court would believe her version without question,” said ASP Pareek while speaking with HT. But the missing gunpowder residue on the wound exposed the truth.
CCTV Footage and Investigation Expose the Crime
Adding to the evidence, CCTV footage showed the woman arriving in an auto-rickshaw at the very spot she claimed to have been dumped from a car after the alleged crime. This directly contradicted her original version of events.
Following the revelations, the police took the woman and the two men involved in the fake setup into custody. A formal complaint regarding the false case is yet to be registered.
Not Her First False Allegation
This isn’t the first time the woman has tried to implicate the same politician. In 2022, she had accused him of raping her in a moving car, but those charges were later proven to be false as well.
