A 22-year-old woman from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested after a video of her burning the Manusmriti went viral. However, the woman, identified as Priyanka Varun, asserted that the video was recorded three years ago and had only resurfaced recently. The video gained widespread attention on December 26.

Priyanka Varun, a resident of Nagla Fakirchand in the Shahganj area, and the National President of the Bharatiya Mahila Suraksha Sangh, explained that the video was old and had been re-shared on social media. According to a report by News 18, a case was filed against her, and following a court order, she was sent to jail.

The video, which was posted on Priyanka's personal social media account, was accompanied by the caption, "Best wishes on Manusmriti Dahan (burning)."Priyanka also shared a screenshot of the Instagram post on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the police, Priyanka was arrested on December 30 and later released on bail.

An FIR was registered against her under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
