In a strategic move to manage peak electricity demand during the summer months, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has decided to procure electricity from the upcoming solar power storage plant in Morena, Madhya Pradesh. The solar facility, equipped with a battery storage system, will help the state avoid purchasing costly power during peak hours.

The decision was discussed during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday at Shakti Bhawan, attended by Additional Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh’s New and Renewable Energy Department, Chairman of Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) Manu Shrivastava, Director Amanbir Singh Bains, and UPPCL Chairman Dr Ashish Kumar Goyal, along with other senior officials.

During the meeting, an in-principle agreement was reached wherein Uttar Pradesh will receive electricity during the six summer months, while Madhya Pradesh will draw power in the winter season.

Dr Goyal noted that Uttar Pradesh sees its highest power demand in the summer, making this arrangement timely and economically beneficial. “The electricity sourced from the Morena solar plant will be significantly cheaper,” he added, emphasising that the battery storage system will eliminate the need to purchase expensive electricity during peak hours.
