The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has begun preparations to run special bus services on various routes under an incentive scheme to ensure smooth travel for passengers during the festive season.
According to officials, these special services will operate from October 18 (Dhanteras) to October 30, aimed at managing the heavy rush of commuters during Diwali and Chhath. The corporation has issued directives to all regional managers, declaring this duration as an “incentive period.” During this time, the maximum number of buses will be deployed to both enhance revenue and ensure passenger convenience.

With many professionals, students, and families already heading to their hometowns, heavy passenger crowds were seen at Pari Chowk on Wednesday. In the initial phase, additional buses will be operated from Delhi to eastern Uttar Pradesh to help passengers reach their destinations by Diwali evening. Special services will also be introduced on routes in Lucknow and Kanpur, while buses running from eastern UP to Delhi and Ghaziabad will see added trips if occupancy exceeds 60 per cent.
On Bhai Dooj and nearby days, extra buses will cater to short-distance and local routes. After Diwali, sufficient buses will be available for the return journey of Chhath passengers from Delhi, Kanpur, and Lucknow to cities in eastern UP.
At the Greater Noida depot, Assistant Regional Manager Anil Sharma said preparations are in full swing to deploy all 117 buses. Spare parts and maintenance services are being stocked to tackle any technical issues during operations.
The leave of drivers, conductors, and workshop staff has been cancelled, and all buses have undergone pre-festival maintenance to prevent breakdowns. No leave or weekly offs will be permitted from October 18 to 30, ensuring uninterrupted service during the festive period.
