Uttar Pradesh News: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death by her son in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh after she intervened to stop him from attacking his wife, police said on Monday.

The incident took place in Baghera Kalan village around 10 PM on Sunday. According to police, the accused, identified as Ramsurat Bind, returned home drunk and began assaulting his wife, Sunita Devi. When his mother, Chamelia Devi, tried to intervene and protect her daughter-in-law, Ramsurat allegedly turned violent and strangled her.

According to a NDTV report, family members rushed Chamelia Devi to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival, said Additional Superintendent of Police Nitish Singh.

Following a complaint filed by the victim’s other son, a case was registered at Jigna police station against Ramsurat. The accused was taken into custody the same night.

Police have sent the woman’s body for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway. Officials said the accused appeared to be heavily intoxicated during the incident.

In separate news, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur Dehat, along with her partner, allegedly murdered her 23-year-old son using a hammer and staged it as a road accident to claim his insurance money, police said. The accused, identified as Mayank alias Ishu Katiyar, and his brother Rishi, carried out the killing inside a car on October 26.

Police said the victim, Pradeep Sharma, opposed his mother’s relationship with Mayank and had moved away after his father’s death. The duo allegedly bought multiple insurance policies in his name before plotting his murder. They attacked Pradeep while driving on the Kanpur-Etawah Highway and dumped his body to make it appear accidental.

A police investigation later exposed the crime, recovering the hammer, a firearm, and the vehicle. Both accused were arrested after an encounter, during which Rishi was shot and injured. Pradeep’s mother is also under investigation for her involvement.
