In a shocking incident, five children of a family fell sick after consuming food late on Wednesday night in Khanpur village, under the Chola police station area in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh.
Manoj Kumar, a resident of the village, said his wife cooked lentils for the family and made the children eat their dinner. The woman was purportedly unaware that a lizard had fallen into the pan and got boiled along with the pulses.
Shortly after having the food, the health of the children started deteriorating. The children became nauseous and began vomiting. The lizard was discovered by the relatives, who came running, listening to the cries of the children.
They immediately admitted the kids to the hospital. According to the doctor, their condition is stable. It is being suspected that the vessel was not covered while cooking pulses and the lizard fell into the pan during this time.
Yet in another such incident, as many as 35 children fell ill after dead lizards were found in their mid-day meal at a government school in Dumri of Sadar block in Bihar's Saran district. The lizard was first discovered by a student, who later told other students. Soon after, the students started creating a ruckus inside the school premises.
The school's headmistress, Poonam Kumari, claimed that an NGO distributed mid-day meals in the school. She added that as soon as students spotted a lizard in lunch, food distribution was halted and all the ill children were sent to the hospital.
