The Uttar Pradesh government is set to establish four new private textile parks, with the Handloom and Textile Industry Department preparing to sign agreements with the relevant companies.
The parks will be located in Unnao, Kanpur Dehat, Shamli, and Amroha. Each park will be established on 25 acres of land and will be operated by the companies that build them.
Government Support And Incentives
According to MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan, the government will support these private parks by:
- Providing basic facilities, including electricity, roads, water, and sewerage.
- Giving an incentive of Rs 50 crore to the respective companies.
- The private company will be responsible for the establishment and operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).
Broader State And Central Textile Initiatives
This project is part of a larger effort by the Yogi Adityanath government to establish new textile industries alongside traditional ones.
Sant Kabir Parks: The Handloom and Textile Industry Department is also working on a plan to establish ten state textile parks named after Sant Kabir. Preparations are underway to reclaim the land of defunct spinning mills to build these textile and apparel parks.
PM MITRA Park: A separate, large-scale PM MITRA textile and apparel park is being established on 1,000 acres in Lucknow. A company to develop this central government-supported park has not yet been selected.
Growth In UP's Textile Sector
The state's textile industry has seen significant growth. The export of readymade garments from Uttar Pradesh to approximately 14 countries—including the USA, United Kingdom (UK), UAE, Germany, and Nepal—has increased rapidly.
According to a report by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO):
Exports of textiles and apparel from Uttar Pradesh increased by 11 per cent last year, amounting to Rs 15,500 crore.
A 14 per cent increase was also recorded in the registration of textile industry machinery last year.
