Uttar Pradesh:  A married woman was suffocated to death by her in-laws on Friday night in the Saini police station jurisdiction of Kausambi district. According to the complaint of the victim’s mother, the in-laws had been harassing her over dowry issues, and her brother-in-law allegedly engaged in obscene behaviour and pressured her into an illicit relationship. She was allegedly killed by suffocation with a pillow.

Soon after the incident, the mother of the married woman filed a complaint. A case was registered against the six accused, including her brother-in-law, Hindustan Times quoted DSP Sirathu Satyendra Tiwari as saying. He further stated that the SHO of the police station has been instructed to carry out impartial action and take strict action against the accused.

What Led To The Shocking Incident?

The victim, originally from Bihar’s Siwan, was married in Kausambi district on November 30, 2023. Shortly after the marriage, her in-laws allegedly began demanding dowry. Although a panchayat was held between two families to address the issue, the harassment reportedly continued.

A few months later, the woman’s husband left for Saudi Arabia for work. During his absence, his brother-in-law started exhibiting obscene behaviour and forced her into an illicit relationship. According to the woman’s mother, when her daughter resisted and refused to fulfil the dowry demands, she was suffocated to death with a pillow on Friday night. The in-laws later claimed that she had consumed poison.

When the victim’s parents arrived at her matrimonial home, she alleged to have discovered the truth and promptly informed the police. The woman’s body was then sent for post-mortem examination.
