UP News: All major national parks and tiger reserves in Uttar Pradesh will be closed to tourists starting June 15 for the yearly monsoon season. The parks include- Dudhwa National Park and Tiger Reserve, Katarnia Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary, the Ranipur Tiger Reserve near Chitrakoot, and the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve.
Till October 31, all of these national parks and tiger reserves will be closed. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Anuradha Vemuri, gave the directive.
Only 20% of a tiger reserve's total territory is accessible to tourists, under the National Tiger Conservation Authority's (NTCA) rules. Every year, from June 15 to November 15, these regions remain closed during the monsoon and animal mating season.
The 2024–2025 tourist season for Pilibhit Tiger Reserve concludes on June 15.

The bad state of the roads inside the reserves is the primary reason why the parks are closed during the monsoon. After intense rain, the majority of internal routes- which are unpaved- become impassable.
Wildlife is more sensitive during the mating season, thus human involvement is limited. Visitors can resume visiting any of the parks on this list as of November 1.
As a precaution, state zoos have also been urged to close, in addition to the national parks. Despite the fact that there is currently no reported threat to wildlife, the Forest Department has made the decision to keep the zoos closed in order to protect both the animals and the public.
Orders to be vigilant and keep an eye on the animals' health have been issued, and monitoring is still going on.
