Residents can expect to see a significant acceleration in the construction of roads, bridges and culverts this winter, as the Public Works Department (PWD) is fast-tracking its project approval process.

To ensure that new infrastructure projects can begin as soon as possible, the PWD's Expenditure Finance Committee has started holding daily meetings. According to PWD Principal Secretary Ajay Chauhan, the department is approving approximately 30 proposals every day.

The goal is to issue financial approvals for all new schemes by October 15. This will allow the tendering process to be completed quickly so that construction can commence at the earliest opportunity.

Budget And Project Scope

The PWD's total budget for the current financial year is approximately Rs 32,000 crore.

Rs 22,000 crore has been allocated for new projects. This work plan, based on proposals from MLAs and MPs, includes schemes for road widening, connecting villages with link roads, building bypasses, and upgrading state highways and pilgrimage routes.
