UP Schools Re-Open: As Uttar Pradesh continues to grapple with extreme weather conditions, including dense fog and a severe cold wave, parents, students, and educational authorities are eagerly awaiting clarity regarding the reopening of schools. With temperatures dipping and the fog intensifying, many in the region are concerned about whether schools will open as scheduled on January 16, 2026.
According to official announcements, all council schools in the region will resume operations on January 16 after the winter break. However, due to the prevailing cold conditions, schools will operate under revised timings, running from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
In Gautam Budh Nagar, all schools from Nursery to Class 8 have been closed until January 15 because of the dense fog and cold. This closure applies to schools affiliated with various boards, including CBSE, ICSE, IB, and the UP Board. Schools in the area are scheduled to reopen on January 16 unless a new directive is issued by the local authorities.
In Prayagraj, schools for Classes 1 to 8 will remain closed until January 20. This closure is due to the crowd management requirements for the ongoing Magh Mela, which draws large crowds and poses logistical challenges for local authorities.
Similarly, Ghaziabad has announced a complete closure of schools for students from Nursery to Class 5 due to the ongoing cold wave. For students in Classes 6 to 12, schools will reopen but with revised timings, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, in a bid to ensure safety while facilitating learning.
Despite the disruptions caused by the cold weather, educational authorities are moving ahead with plans for the second-term exams for the 2025-26 academic year. The exams for council and recognised schools will be held between January 24 and January 31, and schools have been instructed to focus on exam preparation as the reopening progresses.
According to a report from Jagran.com, based on the results of the term exams, special teaching arrangements will be made for students who do not achieve the expected results. These students will be identified at the classroom level, and the subject matter will be revised in a simplified manner, with additional practice provided. Emphasis will also be placed on addressing any learning gaps.
In line with efforts to support all learners, special arrangements will be made for students who do not perform as expected in the term exams. Based on the results, teachers will provide additional support to students who are identified as needing further help.
The support will include targeted revisions of key subjects in a simplified manner, alongside extra practice sessions to help bridge any knowledge gaps. Teachers are expected to offer individualised attention to students who may be struggling, working closely with them to improve their academic performance.
