A video from Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh shows a 14-year-old boy being tied upside down to a tree and violently beaten by a group of youths, allegedly over a suspected mobile phone theft.

The footage has sparked widespread outrage and led to a police investigation, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

In the now viral video, several men can be seen questioning and attacking the boy while he hangs upside down. His cries for help go ignored as bystanders record the incident.

Local police stated that the boy is a minor who had previously faced accusations of minor theft in the area.
