The administration has promoted Dr Vipin Tada, a 2012-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). Dr Tada, who assumed charge as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Meerut on June 26, 2024, will continue to serve in the district with the elevated rank of SSP or DIG.

Alongside Dr Tada, Sachindra Patel, Commandant of the 44th Battalion, has also been promoted to the rank of DIG.

Impact On Crime In Meerut

Since Dr Tada took charge in Meerut, the district has witnessed a substantial decline in major crimes. Official data indicates the following reductions during his tenure:

Dacoity: Reduced by 66 per cent

Murder of Women: Reduced by 60 per cent

Robbery: Reduced by 58 per cent

Rape: Reduced by 25 per cent

Murder: Reduced by 11 per cent

From Doctor To IPS Officer: Who Is Vipin Tada?

Originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, Dr Tada’s journey to the police service is noteworthy. Born to Mr Manchharam, an advocate by profession, he received his primary education at a small local school.

Setting his sights on the medical profession early on, he was selected for an MBBS course in 2002 on his first attempt. Following his medical studies, he served as a Medical Officer at a government hospital in a Rajasthan village for eight months. While serving in this medical role, he was selected for the Indian Police Service in 2012.

Previous Postings And Recognition

Prior to his current posting in Meerut, Dr Tada served as the SSP in several key districts, including Saharanpur, Gorakhpur and Rampur.

His policing methods have previously garnered high-profile attention. Prime Minister Narendra Modi once praised Dr Tada in a tweet for his initiative of conducting police patrols on a bicycle to connect better with the community.

On the personal front, Dr Tada is the son-in-law of Satpal Singh, the former Commissioner of Mumbai Police and former Member of Parliament for Baghpat.
