The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has proposed a 72-km Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor joining Ghaziabad to Noida International Airport at Jewar via Greater Noida West. Officials have also planned a separate RRTS connecting Iffco Chowk, Gurugram to Surajpur via Faridabad. This line is expected to improve connectivity to Delhi’s IGI.
“The Noida International Airport will now enjoy connectivity via two rapid rail corridors. For the Ghaziabad-Jewar alignment, a detailed project report has been finalised and forwarded to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final processing,” said Shailendra Bhatia, Yeida, additional chief executive officer, quoted the Hindustan Times.
Ghaziabad-Jewar RRTS
Route length: 72.44 km
Cost: Approximately Rs 20,360 crore
Top speed: Trains can reach up to 160-180 km/h, thereby reducing the travel time between Ghaziabad and the airport by 60-70 minutes.
The project will be fully operational by 2030, with a phased opening starting from 2027.
The corridor will run as a "hybrid" corridor, where Namo Bharat (RRTS) and Metro services operate on the same infrastructure.
The corridor is planned with 22 stations, 11 integrated RRTS-metro stations and 11 standalone metro stations. There are provisions for 12 additional stations in the future.
There is also a plan to extend the corridor to Sarai Kale Khan in the near future.
