The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved a plan to construct 'Panchayat Utsav Bhavan' in every rural assembly constituency of the state. This will provide accessible and affordable venues for weddings and other social events in villages. The project will be operated and implemented through Gram Panchayats. This decision will not only provide affordable and convenient venues for social events in villages but also strengthen rural infrastructure.

About 70 per cent of the state's population lives in villages. People in these rural areas have long faced problems due to the lack of suitable venues for weddings, Mundan ceremonies, and other traditional events. There has been a constant demand from Panchayats and public representatives to the government to build community halls, but due to limited resources with the Panchayati Raj Department, this could not be implemented.

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said that on Thursday, the cabinet approved the construction of one 'Panchayat Utsav Bhavan' in each rural assembly constituency. A budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the first phase of this scheme for the financial year 2025-26.

With this amount, Panchayat Utsav Bhavans will be constructed in 71 rural assembly constituencies of the state. The estimated cost of each Utsav Bhavan is Rs 1.41 crore. A committee headed by the District Magistrate will be formed for site selection. People can also donate their land under the Matrubhumi Yojana to have these buildings constructed there.
