Various social and political organizations have announced that they will intensify their struggle to secure justice for Ankita Bhandari under the banner of the 'Ankita Nyay Yatra Sanyukt Sangharsh Manch.' During a press conference held at the Press Club on Thursday, the organizations associated with the forum called for a torchlight procession from Gandhi Park on January 10 and a state-wide bandh (shutdown) on January 11. They also appealed to all parties and organisations to support the movement.

Demand To Reveal VIP's Name

Mahila Manch President Kamla Pant stated that this battle will continue until the name of the alleged 'VIP' involved in the case is revealed. She highlighted that the VIP was mentioned in the court order and also referenced in chats between Ankita and her friend. Consequently, she demanded that the government publicly disclose the VIP's name and conduct a CBI investigation under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge.

Allegations Of Shielding The Accused

Kamla Pant alleged that while new developments surface daily, the government is attempting to shield influential individuals. She insisted that the destruction of evidence at the Vanantara Resort must be investigated to reveal who was responsible and at whose behest it was done. She also demanded an update on the progress of the aid and compensation promised by the government to Ankita's family.

Criticism Of The Chief Minister

Mohit Dimri, the convener of the Mool Niwas Bhu-Kanoon Sangharsh Samiti, accused the Chief Minister of trying to divert attention from the issue. He pointed out that Ankita's parents have been demanding a CBI inquiry for three years. He termed the Chief Minister's statement—that a CBI inquiry would be conducted if the parents desired it—as merely a delaying tactic.

Dimri argued that instead of turning the meeting into an "event" by summoning the parents to him, the Chief Minister should have visited them at their home. He further described the Chief Minister's comment that "some people want to spoil the atmosphere of the state" as unfortunate, given that the movement is entirely peaceful.

Unfulfilled Promises To The Family

The speakers emphasised that this is not a battle of any single party or organization, but a shared struggle of the public. Members of the Joint Sangharsh Manch shared that they met Ankita Bhandari's parents on Thursday morning. They noted that even today, the parents' eyes fill with tears at the mention of Ankita's name. The family faces an uncertain future. Although the government had announced a job for Ankita's brother and a nursing college in her name, these promises have yet to be fulfilled.

Representatives from several organisations were present at the press conference, including Gajendra Bhandari (Secretary, Garhwal Sabha), Sulochana Ishtwal (State President, National Regional Party), Shanti Bhatt (Spokesperson, UKD), Uma Bhatt (Gyan Vigyan Samiti), TS Negi (National General Secretary, Uttarakhand Samanta Party), and Vinod Dhasmana (State President, Akhil Bharatiya Samanta Manch).
