The state capital, Dehradun, is now set to take a major step towards environmentally protected public transport. In a meeting of the Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation, a decision was taken to implement the E-BRTS (Electric Bus Rapid Transit System) in Doon.
In the meeting held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, in-principle approval was given to the proposed dedicated elevated corridor for the operation of E-BRTS e-buses.
Elevated Corridor And Traffic Management
Considering the increasing traffic pressure in the future, instructions were given to consider making this corridor four lanes instead of two. Under the plan, two lanes will be reserved exclusively for E-BRTS e-buses, while the remaining two lanes will be for the operation of regular buses. This will help in significantly reducing the problem of traffic jams in Dehradun.
Due to the dedicated lanes, buses will be able to reach their destinations quickly without any obstruction, which will save passengers' time and make public transport more reliable. Additionally, the alignment of the Bindal and Rispana elevated roads should be connected with the E-BRTS corridor, so that there are no technical difficulties at the junctions and the city's traffic system remains smooth.

The special feature of the E-BRTS will be that it will operate entirely electric buses, which will not only be pollution-free but will also reduce noise and fuel costs. With the implementation of E-BRTS in Dehradun, the capital will get a metro-like facility at a lower cost, and this project will prove to be a milestone in moving the city towards a green transport model.

Project Coordination And Planning
In the meeting, instructions were given to prepare a detailed plan for adequate parking arrangements under the entire project. For better coordination and implementation of the project, instructions were given to appoint the Superintending Engineer of the Public Works Department, Dehradun, as the nodal officer for the project, to strengthen coordination between the Metro Rail Corporation and the PWD.
Principal Secretary R Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, Dr Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Brijesh Kumar Sant, Additional Secretary Vineet Kumar and officials of the UKMRC were present at the meeting.
Update On Har Ki Pauri To Chandi Devi Ropeway
Initiate the process only after forest clearance On the proposal to start the tender process for the Har Ki Pauri to Chandi Devi ropeway and to begin proceedings for private land acquisition, the Chief Secretary said that the process should be initiated only after receiving Stage-I forest clearance.
