Taking strict action against the uncontrolled rise of builder floor construction in Dehradun, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has made a significant decision. The authority has issued an order placing an immediate ban on the construction of builder floors with more than two storeys.
Permission will only be granted for the construction of two storeys, provided that stilt parking is mandatory. MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari has prohibited the approval of plans for builders who do not comply with this rule.

The authority has implemented this with immediate effect and has also begun reviewing all pending projects and proposals. According to the MDDA, floors of up to three to four storeys were being erected on small plots in the city.
Many builders would sell additional floors by showing stilt parking in their plans, only to later convert the stilt area into shops or rooms, which created parking shortages, traffic jams, and disorder in these areas.
Furthermore, standards such as fire safety, road access, and plot size were not being adhered to in many constructions. Authority Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari stated that if any construction of more than two storeys is found despite the ban, the building will be sealed immediately, and an FIR will be registered against the concerned builder, owner, and contractor. Additionally, the process of blacklisting such projects will also be initiated.
