Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has launched a large-scale campaign against illegal plotting and unauthorised constructions across the region. Over the past month, illegal plotting on more than 150 bighas of land has been demolished, while several multi-storey buildings have been sealed.

According to MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari, illegal plotting was razed on 18 bighas in Jhabrawala (Doiwala), 12 bighas in Dandi village (Ranipokhari), 25 bighas in Baksarwala (Bhaniyawala), and 40 bighas near Sai Mandir on Haridwar Road. Similar action was also taken against 10 bighas in Shishambada and five bighas in Rupnagar Badripur.

In addition, several illegal constructions were sealed in Majri Grant, Haridwar Road, Nehru Colony, Sahastradhara Road, and the Shimla Bypass Hinduwala area. The most significant action was witnessed in Rishikesh, where over a dozen multi-storey buildings were sealed in Nirmal Bagh, Virbhadra Road, Gali Number 10-11, and Koyal Grant.

Vice-Chairman Tiwari said Chief Minister Dhami has made it clear that illegal plotting and construction will not be tolerated. He emphasised that the campaign will continue until every unauthorised structure is dealt with. “This is not the final step but part of a continuous drive,” he said.

The authority has also appealed to citizens not to fall prey to the land mafia and to verify the legality of any property with the MDDA before purchase. Officials warned that unauthorised purchases could result in financial loss and legal complications.

Tiwari stressed that strict action is necessary to preserve Uttarakhand’s planned development and natural beauty. “Illegal constructions not only harm the environment but also pose a threat to the state’s identity and future,” he added. The recent demolitions and sealing drives, carried out under heavy police presence and with bulldozers, have sent a strong warning to violators.
