The Rishikesh Municipal Corporation has made the registration of pet dogs mandatory for all residents within its jurisdiction. The deadline for completing the registration is December 31.
Launch Of Registration Drive
The corporation initiated the registration process on Tuesday at Hanumantpuram in Ganga Nagar. The drive began in the presence of Mayor Shambhu Paswan and Municipal Commissioner Gopal Ram Binwal.
Day 1 Progress: On the first day, five residents registered their pets, while more than 10 people collected registration forms.
Availability: From Wednesday, registration forms will be available at the Municipal Corporation's health department.
Fee: A registration fee of Rs 500 will be charged.
Strict Action On Banned Breeds
The Municipal Commissioner emphasised that keeping banned breeds of dogs is strictly prohibited. Any resident found keeping a banned breed will face a heavy fine of Rs 20,000, and the dog will not be registered.
Key Bylaws And Rules
The Municipal Corporation has established specific bylaws for pet owners. Residents must adhere to the following rules:
Eligibility: Registration is mandatory for all pet dogs aged three months or older.
Details Required: Owners must declare the breed, color, and sex of the dog.
Vaccination: A valid anti-rabies vaccination certificate must be submitted.
Token System: Upon registration, a token will be issued. This token must always be worn on the dog's collar. A dog found in a public place without a token will be considered unregistered.
Public Hygiene: Pet dogs are prohibited from defecating or urinating in public places while being walked.

Public Awareness
To ensure compliance, information regarding the new rules will be disseminated via door-to-door waste collection vehicles.

The launch event was attended by Regional Councillor Sandhya Bisht, Veterinary Officer Dr Amit Verma, Chief Sanitary Inspector Amit Negi, Sanitary Inspector Subhash Semwal, Rajesh, Sanny, and Ekant Goyal.
