In response to the intensifying cold weather, the municipal administration has constructed a temporary night shelter near the railway station. Unlike previous years, the administration has upgraded the infrastructure to provide better protection against the winter chill.
Inspection And Facilities
Municipal Executive Officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra inspected the new facility on Tuesday to review the arrangements.
Capacity And Amenities: The shelter near the railway station can accommodate around 40 people at a time. It has been equipped with 40 single beds, each provided with a quilt, mattress and pillow.
Heating And Safety: A bonfire will be arranged outside the shelter for warmth. Furthermore, to ensure the safety of the occupants, police will be deployed at the site 24 hours a day.
Infrastructure Upgrade: Iron Sheets Vs. Tents
A significant change this year is the material used for construction. Until last year, temporary night shelters were built using waterproof tents, which often failed to fully insulate occupants from the cold. This year, the municipality has constructed these shelters using iron sheets to offer better protection.
Status Of Other Shelters
Every year, the municipality sets up three night shelters during the winter season:
Railway Station: Temporary shelter (Operational).
Majidpura Locality: A permanent shelter that has already been made operational.
Atarpura Chaupla: A temporary shelter currently under construction.
The EO added that signage will be installed at various strategic locations across the city to direct people to the nearest shelter.
