On the occasion of the New Year, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inducted 100 new buses into the fleet of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) on Wednesday. The Chief Minister flagged off the buses from the Chief Minister’s Camp Office.
During the event, the Chief Minister also dedicated 10 AC and two sleeper contract buses to the public. He released the transport corporation’s souvenir “Anvarat” and a road safety–themed calendar, and honoured employees who discharged their duties with dedication and integrity under challenging circumstances.
Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said the addition of technologically advanced buses would significantly strengthen the state’s public transport system. He said the initiative would ensure safe, convenient and affordable travel for passengers while giving a boost to the state’s economic, social and tourism activities.
Highlighting Uttarakhand’s difficult and mountainous terrain, the Chief Minister said a strong transport network is essential not only for public convenience but also for overall economic development. He said the state government is continuously working to strengthen the Transport Corporation.
CM Dhami informed that construction of over 13 new bus depots and workshops has been completed, while work is underway at 14 other locations, including four Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs). He added that electric buses would soon be included in the corporation’s fleet.

The Chief Minister said modern facilities such as GPS, CCTV cameras, e-ticketing, fleet monitoring systems and timely maintenance are being ensured in buses to enhance the safety of both passengers and employees. He also said steps have been taken to address manpower shortages through an increase in dearness allowance, implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations and fresh recruitment.
Stating that the government views the Transport Corporation as a “medium of service,” CM Dhami said efforts are being made to make it modern, self-reliant and people-centric through transparent policies and accountability.
Cabinet Ministers Ganesh Joshi and Subodh Uniyal, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, MLAs Khajandas, Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’ and Savita Kapoor, Managing Director of the Transport Corporation and Additional Secretary Reena Joshi, along with senior transport department officials, were present at the event.
