Uttarakhand CNG Price Drop: Rates To Fall By Rs 15 As Govt Slashes VAT To 5%

The state government has taken a significant step towards promoting green fuel. As part of this initiative, the government has decided to slash the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate on natural gas from 20 per cent to just 5 per cent. This move is expected to make CNG cheaper by Rs 13 to Rs 15 and PNG by Rs 5 to Rs 7.

A major contributor to the continuously rising pollution in the state is the prevalence of petrol and diesel-operated vehicles. Recently, several major cities in Uttarakhand have witnessed a spike in the Air Quality Index (AQI). In light of this, the state government decided to incentivize the use of natural gas by drastically reducing the VAT rate.

Currently, CNG prices in various cities across the state range between Rs 99 to Rs 100 per kg, while PNG rates range between Rs 40 to Rs 45 per unit. This reduction in VAT will provide significant relief to those driving natural gas vehicles. The prices are set to decrease immediately once the official order is issued.
