The Uttarakhand Medical Service Selection Board has released the selection results for 142 Assistant Professors across various departments of government medical colleges. With the subject-wise results declared, the selected candidates are expected to receive their first postings soon, offering relief from the long-pending faculty shortage and raising hopes for an improved academic environment.

In a bid to fill permanent faculty positions, the Medical Education Department, acting on the directions of the departmental minister, had earlier sent a requisition to the board for direct recruitment to 439 vacant posts.

According to the declared results, 142 specialist doctors have been selected across more than two dozen departments. These include:

-Anaesthesia: 16

-Anatomy, Paediatrics, Biochemistry: 7 each

-Blood Bank, Radiotherapy, Dermatology: 3 each

-Community Medicine, Pathology: 12 each

-Dentistry: 2

-Emergency Medicine, Forensic Medicine: 1 each

-General Medicine, General Surgery, Respiratory Medicine, Pharmacology: 5 each

-Microbiology, Orthopaedics: 9 each

-Obstetrics and Gynaecology: 8

-Ophthalmology: 4

-ENT, Psychiatry, Physiology: 6 each

Medical Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said the appointment of permanent faculty will significantly improve the quality of teaching, training, and research in government medical colleges, ultimately benefiting both students and patients.
