Efforts have been intensified in Uttarakhand to create a Farmer Registry by preparing digital IDs for farmers under the central government's AgriStack scheme. As part of this, officials and employees of the Revenue and Agriculture departments were given training in Dehradun on Monday.
It was stated that in the first phase of the scheme, a Farmer Registry will be prepared for the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, to ensure that the payment of the scheme's next instalment is not affected in any way. The training programme, held at Hotel Pearl Avenue on Ring Road, was inaugurated by Revenue Secretary Dr SN Pandey by lighting a lamp.
On this occasion, AgriStack representatives Chinmay Mehta and Harshad Patel shed light on the various aspects of the Farmer Registry. They said that the central government has launched the Farmer Registry to directly connect all farmers with government schemes and to digitise their identity.
What is Farmer Registry?
The Farmer Registry is a database where farmers can register to obtain their digital identity. After registration, the farmer will receive a unique digital identity, which will be called a Farmer ID. This 11-digit ID will be generated after the completion of e-KYC and field verification.
Through the Farmer Registry, it will be easier to deliver the benefits of various government-run schemes to farmers in a transparent and timely manner. Once accurate information on farmers is obtained through the Farmer Registry, it will assist the government in planning and formulating public policies. It will help in providing farmers with benefits such as disaster relief, agricultural subsidies, crop loans, and various insurance schemes, as well as in monitoring agricultural schemes and farmer welfare programmes at various levels.
It was also reported at the programme that the Farmer Registry was launched as a pilot project in August this year in Kyari and Latou of Kalsi tehsil (sub-district) and Hanol and Kanda of Tyuni tehsil in Dehradun district. With the support of the central government's team, a Farmer Registry for 128 farmers has been prepared there on an experimental basis.
This work will now be carried out by employees of the Revenue and Agriculture departments across the state. In this process, personnel from the Agriculture Department will act as registration officers, while officials from the Revenue Department will handle verification and approval.
In addition to the Commissioner and Secretary of the Board of Revenue, Ranjana Rajguru, the event was attended by ADMs, SDMs, Tehsildars, and Chief Agriculture Officers from all districts of the Garhwal division.
