10 Animals That Can Be Both Male And Female: No matter how much we already know about our ecosystem, mother nature still carries the potential to surprise us from time to time with its wired characteristics. From trees that no one even knew existed to animals that are making a ‘wild card’ appearance from the deep sea on a daily basis, you name it, and there’s a new surprise every other day. So, adding more surprise to the same, here we are with a list of animals that can be both male and female. Yes, let that sink in. The list was compiled by ‘treehugger’.
Here are 10 animals that can be both male and female:
Clownfish
The first on the list of animals that can be both male and female is the Clownfish. Or you might know these fishes from the animated blockbuster ‘Finding Nemo’. Yes, apparently, both the father-son duo could have turned into a female the whole time.
Banana Slugs
Next on the list is the Banana Slugs. These cute-looking slugs can use their male and female reproductive system simultaneously. Now, that’s something new.
Hawkfish
The third on the list to enjoy both male and female privileges is the Hawkfish. They mostly turn into males from females when required.
Sea Bass
The next on the list is another aquatic animal and is also the fourth on the list of animals to share both male and female reproductive organs- Sea Bass.
Humphead Wrasse
It seems like this kind of unique trait is pretty common among aquatic animals. Another on the list is the Humphead Wrasse.
Butterflies
This one might be a surprise to many (at least it was to us), but the Butterflies can also be both male and female, depending on their needs and their environment.
Cardinals
The next on the list is still a ‘dicey’ case as far as researchers are concerned. Regardless, the seventh on the list is the Cardinals.
Frogs
Another surprise entry that no one saw coming is the Frog. They are the eighth animal on the list who enjoy both male and female reproductive systems.
Bearded Dragons
The next on the list sounds more like a movie character while enjoying the unique trait of ‘not depending on a partner’. Kidding. The ninth animal on the list is the Bearded Dragons.
