Rashmika Mandanna Viral Video: The internet broke down with horror on November 6, after an AI deepfake video of actor Rashmika Mandanna went viral on social media. The video was edited using Artificial Intelligence, which gave a ‘reality check’ to the nation after people realised the kind of danger AI possesses if it falls into the wrong hands. As soon as the deepfake video surfaced online, people expressed their fear and demanded action. Meanwhile, the actor herself took to her social media handle and addressed the matter. It continued to get out of hand after the real video used in the deepfake was also released on social media, and ended up doing equal rounds on the internet. Amid all this, Zara Patel, the woman in the original video opened up about the matter and expressed her horror.

Taking to her social media, she shared her reaction to the actor’s deep fake viral video and said, “Hi all, it has come to my attention that someone created a deepfake video using my body and a popular Bollywood actress's face. I had no involvement with the deepfake video, and I'm deeply disturbed and upset by what is happening. I worry about the future of women and girls who now have to fear even more about putting themselves on social media. Please take a step back and fact-check what you see on the internet. Not everything on the internet is real. I'm deeply upset by what is happening."

As soon as the video went online, netizens along with leading personalities like superstar Amitabh Bachchan also demanded legal action.

Mandanna, on the other hand, spoke up about the ordeal she faced and called the entire matter scary. “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused,” her Instagram story read.

“Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends, and well-wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft,” it further read.
