LinkedIn Viral Post: A recent LinkedIn post by California executive Jason Loomis has stirred up quite the buzz about dressing professionally during virtual meetings. He shared his experience of joining a Zoom call with a sales team, only to be surprised by one member’s super casual outfit—a hoodie and a baseball cap.
Jason openly questioned if he was just being old-fashioned, writing, “Confession time: I might be turning into the 'get off my lawn' guy of cybersecurity meetings.”
He humorously described how the moment played out. “Today’s episode: A sales team that pursued me like I was the last CISO on earth finally got me on a Zoom call (kudos!). Their lead shows up in a baseball cap and hoodie while I’m in my collared shirt, looking like I’m auditioning for a ‘Professional Adults of LinkedIn’ calendar.”
As the call went on, he couldn’t help but reflect on how times have changed, “Maybe in 2025, ‘dress for success’ has been replaced with ‘dress like you’re grabbing milk from the corner store.’” Maybe my collection of business casual attire is just taking up valuable closet space that could be filled with comfy hoodies."
Despite understanding the shift in workplace culture, he made his point clear: “When you’ve worked hard to get someone’s time, showing up looking like you’ve put in at least minimal effort seems like a reasonable courtesy. Not because of titles or budgets, but because it signals you value the interaction.”
At last, he mentioned, "The call was brief. Not entirely because of the casual attire, but it certainly set a tone that suggested this might not be a partnership of aligned priorities." The post has now sparked wide debate online over what’s acceptable Zoom attire in today’s world.

The viral post shared six days ago on LinkedIn caught many attention from social media users. Many users pointed out his gold shirt, while others questioned, Will you make a decision on how the sales guy was dressed?
One user wrote. "I a bit ironic considering you are wearing a corporate golf shirt." "So, lemme get this straight: you made a decision about the value of the solution for your organization based on how the sales guy was dressed?" a second user added. "I feel like professionalism is coming back. Maybe you’re not behind, but on trend," a third user added. "My friend, you are wearing a polo, which is a t-shirt by business standards. You don’t have a suit on. You’re a collar away from looking just like him, so maybe pump the brakes??" added another user.
"I solve this issue by never using my computer’s camera. Then the person on the other end can just fantasize that I’m wearing whatever attire their personal sensibilities deem appropriate," a fifth user wrote. "You raise something here that’s on my mind. Not just attire, but the aspects of transactional detachment that are out there in cyber. Personally, I feel it’s wrong at best and unethical at worst," added another user.
