Pulling a similar card like the ‘Snapchat and Snapdeal confusion’ controversy yet again, Indians confused a player for the second time when it came to ‘trolling’ an Australian cricketer for his game at the World Cup 2023 final. November 19 marked a sad day for Indian cricket fans after the country lost to Australia during the final in Gujarat’s Narendra Modi Stadium. As soon as Australia's celebrations slowed down, Indians took over the charge by ‘hating’ and trolling the Aussie players for their game. Amid this, fans also targeted Australian spinner Adam Zampa as he was responsible for Gill’s catch. In a matter of seconds, Zampa's Instagram handle began to receive trolls and hate comments, but there was a major confusion.
Similar to how Indians began to boycott Snapdeal after confusing it with Snapchat a while back, this time too, they began to troll the ‘wrong’ Zampa on the internet. This Zampa shared the same spelling with the cricketer Zampa, but was a different person. As the trolling continued, people began to notice the ‘major target miss’ and took the same on the internet to aware others.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) a user also shared an X post about the entire matter. “Indians abusing some random Adam Zampa on Instagram gotta be the funniest thing on the internet,” her post read.
Taking to the ‘wrong’ Adam Zampa, people began to leave hate comments on his Instagram posts. “I always respected you but Indians will never forgive you for the cheating you did with Rohit Sharma,” a user said. “Hey sandpaper Aussie we will teach you a lesson...our India team will thrash you next time,” added a next. “Zampa ne gill ko out krke apni aukat dikha di,” said a third person. “Shubham gill wale like kare,” said a fourth person. “Why didn't you leave Gill's catch?” asked a fourth user. “Aren't you playing the World Cup??” asked a fifth.
Some also came to his defense and cleared the air. “Sorry for all the mess created by 🇮🇳 fans in your previous post bro they thought you're him @/ limoncello.papi (he's not letting anyone to tag),” a user said. “He is not a cricketer stop it...came here after the post went viral on Twitter,” commented a next.
India’s defeat at this year’s WC was far more difficult for many. With the team winning 10 consecutive matches, people had high hopes for the final as well. Unfortunately, the team lost to Australia by 6 wickets, whereas Australia clinched its sixth World Cup trophy. Despite the sad loss, Indian fans were supportive of the Men in Blue and consoled them to ace the next WC.
