German Influencer Viral Video: A German influencer’s take on Indian English has stirred controversy, with her latest video sparking heated discussions online. In the clip, she shares her surprise at hearing Indians use the word “expired” to refer to someone’s passing. With a mix of amusement and confusion, she recounts an instance where this phrasing caught her off guard.

The video, which begins with the text “India?! What is going on?” shows her laughing as she insists that while medicines and prescriptions can expire, people do not. However, what she found funny didn’t sit well with many Desis, who criticized her for mocking linguistic differences.

The now-viral clip was posted on Instagram by the influencer under the handle ‘the_induflencer.’ Captioned with a playful inquiry—“Let me know in the comments if you also use ‘expired’? No judgment,” the video invited responses from followers. In just a day, the post amassed a staggering 4.8 million views, drawing both amusement and criticism from social media users.

Several social media influencers joined the conversation in the comments, sharing their perspectives on the video. One user clapped back, saying, "Woman, go back to school… your low vocabulary is showing. Glad an Indian finally taught you a new word from the dictionary." Another user explained the linguistic nuance, stating, "India has more doctors than your country, so clinical terminology is commonly used here. In medical terms, we don’t say ‘The patient died at 8:00 PM’; we say ‘The patient expired at 8:00 PM.’ Instead of mocking Indian vocabulary, maybe try learning some clinical terms yourself." A third user kept it simple, adding, "'Expired' is a perfectly correct word to use. There’s nothing funny about it."

One user fired back, questioning the influencer’s perspective: "What country are you from? If even 10% of your population spoke Hindi, it would be a big deal. We have millions speaking English and no regrets—we’re doing just fine. We’ve embraced English so much that we don’t even see it as a foreign language anymore. Just so you know, India is the largest non-English speaking country in the world, and we speak really good English."Another user took a more pointed approach, saying, "Hey... listen, dumb—English might be your mother tongue, but we Indians are well-educated. Ever heard of synonyms? ‘Died’ has several alternatives, including ‘passed away,’ ‘departed,’ ‘expired,’ and ‘deceased.’ Maybe brush up on that before mocking others."
