Teachers or Gurus, as per many, deserve more respect than parents. The practice is especially followed in Hinduism, where the role of teachers- teaching- is considered simply too pure and vital. However, what to do if the same teacher ends up discouraging a student? Well, an IIT student faced something similar, while trying to request an attendance concession from a professor. The concession was over a debate competition that the student wanted to participate in. However, the response that the student received from the teacher was simply too blunt and cruel. Giving examples of mega personalities like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, the professor claimed that these people dropped out of college with confidence and never asked for such concessions.
The teacher then went on to ask the student to carry the same confidence before skipping classes. The response then turned further harsh as he claimed that the student couldn't be compared to the said billionaires as the student would never be able to do the same with their life.
“People admire Gates or Zuckerberg because they dropped out of college to pursue what they believed in, not because they went around begging professors to make concessions or exceptions for them. And they created new technology that impacted billions of humans and created trillions of dollars of value. If you strongly believe in other pursuits, be brave and drop out and make something really worthwhile,” the response read.
“But we both know you are never going to do that, and we both know that a debate competition has no tangible value in the real world. If you want respect, demonstrate bravery and strength, not cowardice,” the response further read.
The IIT post went viral and left the internet triggered. Most called the professor egoistic while the rest dubbed him discouraging. Many also trolled the professor and cracked jokes about his own career and possible achievements.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Most sadist folks out there,” a user said. “Prof acting like attending his lecture will make any difference. Most college professors are on a different ego trip, while their lectures remain outdated and outclassed by random YouTube channels. Mandatory attendance is a joke,” added a second person.
“Most IIT Profs from before 2010 haven’t done much good in life and they put out that frustration on 18-22 year kids who are there to learn!” added a third person. “Sorry, but this is in poor taste. Why so much drama? Just say yes or no. Why take potshots at a young person?” commented another. “Prof clearly angry he never tried making a startup himself,” added another.
