Independence Day 2025: India is celebrating its 79th Independence Day on Friday, August 15, 2025. To honour the occasion, Google has released a special Doodle showcasing the country’s proud achievements. From winning world chess titles and shining in cricket to earning international film awards and making breakthroughs in space, the artwork captures India’s journey in a colourful, creative way. The Doodle is designed by Makarand Narkar and Sonal Vasave from Boomranng Studio.

Remembering India’s Freedom Struggle:

Google’s post said, “This Doodle celebrates India’s Independence Day. On this day in 1947, India gained freedom after nearly 200 years of British rule.” It also highlighted the leaders who fought for independence through nonviolent protests and civil disobedience, paving the way for India to become the world’s largest democracy.

Six Tiles, Six Stories:

The Doodle consists of six unique tiles, each inspired by different regions of India. Rajasthan’s famous blue pottery, West Bengal’s terracotta art, and other regional styles are represented, blending tradition with national pride. Each tile tells a story of India’s rich culture and major achievements.

Last year’s Doodle also celebrated Indian heritage, featuring six doors and windows with traditional designs in vibrant colours, including saffron, blue, green, and brown. Even India’s national bird, the peacock, made an appearance.

What Exactly Is Google Doodle?

A Google Doodle is a special illustration that appears on Google’s homepage to celebrate important events, people, or achievements. The first Doodle appeared in 1998 when Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin went to the Burning Man festival.

In 2000, Google created its first international Doodle for Bastille Day in France. Later, in 2010, the first interactive game, Doodle, was made to celebrate Pac-Man’s 30th anniversary, letting users play directly on Google’s homepage.
