South Korea Viral Video: People often talk about Indians lacking civic sense when abroad, but what if it’s not just about Indians? An Indian man in South Korea recently shared a video that’s making many rethink this stereotype. In the Instagram clip, shared by @subtle_crazykorea, the man can be seen walking around the streets showing litter scattered everywhere. Pointing at the trash, he says, “Civic sense yaha bhi lagu honichahiye.” He explains that while Indians abroad are often criticised for not keeping things clean, he noticed locals and even Americans throwing waste in public areas without anyone questioning them.
He points out an important double standard: “When Indians are caught littering abroad, it quickly becomes a commentary on our culture. But here I saw Koreans and Americans doing the same and nobody questions their civic sense.”

The video, shared two days ago, pulled 239k views from social media users. The post was captioned “Civic sense of Indians in Korea?” Comments poured in, with many people agreeing that civic responsibility shouldn’t be judged only on nationality. Some supported his view, while others criticised it.
"This only happens in Itaewon; the rest of the areas are mostly clean, plus it’s most likely a weekend and the littering happened because of the parties. The streets generally get cleaned up and are maintained till the next weekend, whereas we never clean up the streets and the trash just increases," a user wrote. "Broo!! Don't compare our country with them.... They are a million times more advanced and clean than us (India)," a second user wrote.
"That will be clean in the morning, unlike in my city where it took ages," a third user wrote. "Bhai India ka civic sense kaisebhi justify nahikarpaaoge... It's multi-dimensionally bad," added another user. "Comparing paper litter and boxes to Ghazipur Kude ka pahad. And also the people who urinate on streets are usually drunk people who lost their control but in India, a man in full sense, in broad daylight, will stop wherever he likes and start doing it on a side wall," wrote another user.
