Viral Video: It seems like the Indian Railways can’t get its management and hygiene under control, as another video questioning its working is going viral on social media. This time, the Railways came under fire after a video showing the staff throwing out the trash from a moving train surfaced online. A man, donning a uniform, was sweeping off the leftover food directly on the tracks from the moving train. As soon as the matter came to light, it gained a lot of attention and criticism. Reportedly, a complaint has also been lodged by a passenger over the matter. However, it was not received well by the supervisors, who reportedly wanted to know the reason behind the complaint. 

As the matter moved forward, the supervisors, according to the viral post, highlighted the lack of trash bags and other facilities, leading to such a practice. 

The video was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘mumbaimatterz’. The post was captioned, “This seems to be the normal practice of the On Board Housekeeping Staff inside #IndianRailways trains. Just dump all the collected trash on the tracks from the moving train. A passenger lodged a complaint on 139 & in no time the supervisor & entire gang turned trying to find who had complained & why. Saying they aren't paid properly, not provided enough bags to collect trash & so they are managing with meager resources.”

The video soon went viral and left people irked. Most chastised the Indian Railways and their management, while others recalled other such stories where they witnessed something similar. The post was shared a while back and pulled 370K views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Thank God ..! Air India the national carrier doesn’t have this access in the air .. or else the flight attendants too will do the same,” a user said. “Shocking to say the least. While we conduct clean-ups across the country, the railway employees seem to have a no-care attitude about waste management,” added a second person. “This is unacceptable, the government is spending huge money on railways,” said another. “This can't be true & how can the railway staff function like this? Cleanliness starts from home & in this case, from railway kitchen,” added another. 

“Yes I too have witnessed same,” said another. “This is their standard practice,” added another. “After wasting my time in the waiting room in Raipur for 10 hours, when I finally boarded the AC train that was delayed by almost 7 hours, I couldn't use the toilet or even the flooded stinking wash basin outside, all the way home to Bombay. Shame on you & IndRlwy,” said another.
