From Whatsapp’s Diwali wishes to festive videos and status, with Diwali, comes a whole lot of social media bulk content that effortlessly takes over the internet every year during the festival. Among all that, there is this one particular image that has been resurfacing every year on almost every Indian’s phone with a number of explanations. Yes, we are talking about the famous Diwali-lit India's ‘satellite image’, which many say was taken by the ‘space agency NASA’. However, to everyone's surprise, the image has nothing to do with Diwali and this man shared the same picture along with an entire explanation debunking the same.
According to the post, the image was indeed shared by NASA, but it instead showed the ‘temporal composite of REAL night lights’. As soon as the said post surfaced online, it went viral and gained all kinds of reactions from the netizens.
The image was shared on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘rajbhagatt’. The post was captured, “Let me clarify once again on this usual forwarded message of NASA #satellite picture of India during #Diwali. The actual image composite is NOT fake, Interpretation is wrong - I.e. it is not Deepavali night and has nothing to do with it. So what is it? It is a temporal composite of REAL night lights images taken from satellites.”
