Viral Video: A new video from Maharashtra has sparked a fresh language controversy, this time at the historic Vasai Fort. A man dressed as the great Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj got into a heated argument with a security guard who asked him to 'speak in Hindi' and stop shooting his video inside the fort. The man had reportedly come to the fort wearing royal Maratha attire to shoot a short video. But before he could begin, the guard stopped him, saying he didn’t have permission to film there. Things quickly escalated and their argument, captured on camera, spread all over social media.

During the confrontation, the man got angry when the guard admitted he didn’t know Marathi. He snapped, saying, “I spoke to you in Hindi out of respect; you should respect Maharashtra by speaking Marathi. How long have you worked here?” The guard replied politely that he had been working there for two years and promised to learn Marathi soon. But the man continued questioning him and demanded, “Marathi kyun nahi seekha (Why didn’t you learn Marathi)?”

He then accused the guard of disrespecting Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy and warned, “You don’t know Marathi, and you’re acting smart here. Remember, you’ll be famous for this and might lose your job.”

The video shared on X by the handle '@Toxicity_______' a day ago recieved more than 600k views from users. Soon after, the clip went viral, dividing opinions online. Many users slammed the man, saying his aggressive behaviour was against the very teachings of Shivaji Maharaj, who stood for respect and unity. Others, however, felt the guard should have known the local language while working at a historical site in Maharashtra.

One user summed it up perfectly: “The guard was in the wrong for stopping him from shooting his reel. But the guy went wrong when he started misbehaving & demanding Marathi language learning from a poor guy who is posted there by an agency. Ask the agency to post only Marathi guys in Maharashtra & we’ll see how many security guards are available here.” "This started in Tamil Nadu, came to Karnataka but Maharashtra is playing it well," a second user wrote.

"They’re using language as a tool to divide, but history tells a different story. The eldest son of Ch Shivaji Maharaj, Ch Sambhaji Maharaj, himself wrote extensively in Hindi and never once treated language as a reason for division," added a third user. "This is how the country will be destroyed. This guy is demanding a certain language and not respecting authority. No civic sense. Zero," wrote a fourth user.
