TasteAtlas Worst Dish List: TasteAtlas, an online food ranking platform, recently released its list of the 'worst-rated foods' in the world for 2025, and India's beloved missi roti made it to the 56th spot. This ranking, which includes 100 dishes, has sparked strong reactions from Indians. Taste Atlas, based in Croatia, is known for its food polls, but this year's list has faced significant backlash.
TasteAtlas listed missi roti, a traditional North Indian flatbread, as one of the worst-rated foods with a score of 2.7. This upset many Indians and food lovers, as the dish holds a special place in their hearts. The ranking sparked a lot of anger online, with people questioning how such a popular dish could make the list. Other foods on the list included jellied eels, deep-fried pizza, chocolate-covered bacon, and blodpalt—a dumpling made with blood. While it didn't rank well, missi roti is still a favourite, often served with Indian curries.
About TasteAtlas: TasteAtlas, as the name suggests, is an encyclopedia of flavours—a global guide to traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants. It has cataloged over 10,000 foods and drinks, with many more yet to be researched. The platform showcases both popular dishes and lesser-known tastes and aromas from every city, region, and village around the world.
However, the TasteAtlas list has disappointed many, as missi roti is a beloved dish and an important part of India's culinary tradition. The list gained widespread attention after a Reddit post went viral with the caption, "Missi Roti features in the world’s worst dishes list. We Riot!”

Many Reddit users quickly voiced their support for missi roti, defending the dish and expressing their surprise at its inclusion on the list. "Just try missi roti with dal makhani or plain urad ki dal. the combo will take anybody on a trip to heaven," one user wrote.
"Looks like they felt compelled to throw in something from India just to avoid admitting that every Indian dish is an absolute masterpiece. Nice try, though," another user wrote.
