MS Dhoni Hands Over CSK Captaincy: Indian Premier League 2024 turned into a ‘tournament of goodbyes’, as another ace Indian cricketer bid an emotional farewell to his ‘captaincy’ title. The shock, this time, came especially for the Chennai Super Kings fans as their ‘Captain Cool', Mahendra Singh Dhoni, handed over the team’s captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The fact that everyone’s favourite, Mahi, led CSK to win five IPL trophies- in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023- further made it a ‘shocker’ for all. The announcement of the decision was shared today, March 21, just a day before the first IPL 2024 match. The decision was also shared on X (formerly Twitter), on the official handle of CSK.

“OFFICIAL STATEMENT: MS Dhoni hands over captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad,” the post read, which also attached the official statement by the team.

Apart from Dhoni, the other legendary player who won’t be leading his respective IPL team as its captain this year, is Rohit Sharma. This decision also did not sit well with a majority of fans. This year, replacing Sharma, Hardik Pandya will lead Mumbai Indians in the tournament.

 

 

 

Taking to the internet, people shared their take and bid their farewells to the former CSK captain.

“Thank you Captain MS Dhoni We will never forget your contribution- Champions in IPL 2010, Champions in IPL 2011, Champions in IPL 2018, Champions in IPL 2021, Champions in IPL 2023,” a user said.

“Thank you Captain #MSDhoni,” added a second person.

“Thank-you captain for beautiful memories,” added a third person.

“Gonna miss all of these,” said a fourth user

“CSK Fans knowing that #MSDhoni won’t be the captain anymore in the #TATAIPL2024,” commented a fifth fan.

“The final match of MS Dhoni as the captain of Chennai Super Kings. -Thank you, Captain Thala. #MSDhoni,” said another.

The first IPL match for this year, Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, will be held tomorrow, March 22. The game will be played in Tamil Nadu’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, where the match will begin at 8 PM.
