In the last few days, instances related to language imposition and language debate have increased dramatically, especially in Karnataka. Lengthening the list further, another instance was shared on social media, which left people taking sides over the issue. Multiple social media posts lauding Karnataka doctors for writing prescriptions in Kannada were shared online, which received divided reactions. Some found the practice unethical and a potential issue for the patients going outside the state for their treatment, while the rest chastised the incidents and called them an example of ‘unnecessary language imposition’. The post pulled all kinds of reactions from people after getting shared.

One of the posts was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘GuGGu_07’. The post was captioned, “His name is Dr Sanjay he writes prescriptions in Kannada. Make him famous.”

Most people were against it and pointed out the issue doctors from other states might face if the patient visits other doctors, while the rest spoke against the ‘hate’ such incidents are creating. Some also agreed with the post.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Famous for language? Not skill?” a user said. “Dr. Sanjay’s patients please don’t go to any other state ever for treatment. Doctors there will be scratching their heads and your care will get compromised,” added a second person.

“Only Kannada should be taught and spoken. Remove English and all other languages. Everything is in the local language. Forget learning and speaking English as well. It's not the local language,” added another. “I stand strong for Kannada. But this is an illogical trend. Doctors should stay away from such things. Your moral ground should be way higher. You guys are intellectuals who cracked Neet and sleepless rigorous training. I have the utmost respect for your profession,” added another. “Excellent, let's promote Kannada,” wrote the next.

Another similar post lauding a doctor writing a prescription in Kannada was shared on social media. “Hosangadi Dr. Murali Mohan has written the prescription beautifully in Kannada. Let's congratulate him,” the post read.
