In the last few months, cases relating to ‘language imposition’ and the North vs South debate in Karnataka have only increased, as social media is full of instances displaying the same. Among all the cities in the state, Bangalore has turned into a repetitive name for people from outside Karnataka to complain about. From auto rickshaws with abusive quotes against migrants to locals refusing to talk in any language other than Kannada, several incidents have come forward, adding to the already amplifying conflict. Amid all the chaos, another man went viral for a questionable post on social media, where he wrote a letter of sorts to people coming from outside Karnataka. From declaring Bengaluru a city of ‘Kannadigas’ to asking people to learn Kannada to avoid being treated as ‘outsiders’, several points left the internet furious and triggered.

The post on Bengaluru went viral and drew many reactions. Most chastised the man’s take on the matter, while the rest shared their own take which was against the man’s beliefs. A few also tagged authorities and demanded actions and dubbed the post ‘hateful’.

The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘ManjuKBye’. The post read, “To,
Everyone Coming to Bengaluru. You will be treated as OUTSIDERS in Bengaluru if you don't speak Kannada or make an effort to speak Kannada. Write it down, Share it around. We ain't Joking. BENGALURU BELONGS TO KANNADIGAS PERIOD.” The post was shared today and pulled more than 111K views from people.

You will not be treated as OUTSIDERS in other states if you don't speak their languages or make an effort to speak. Write it down, Share it around. We ain't Joking. You will be treated as an Indian ANYWHERE,” read another.

“The way Bengaluru is progressing on basic infrastructure and amenities, nobody will anyway be coming to that place anymore. Companies are already moving out to Pune and Hyderabad,” wrote a third person. “So basically you do not want tourists or foreigners coming for business,” added a fourth user. “Bengaluru is in India Period!!! Respecting local culture is one thing but acting superior over it is not acceptable,” added another.
