A 28-year-old man from Goregaon, Mumbai, recently shared his distressing experience on Reddit, claiming that his female boss at a reputed firm had been making him uncomfortable with unwanted physical contact. According to his post, the boss often calls him into her cabin and touches him unnecessarily during file reviews. Initially, he assumed it was accidental, but over time, it became frequent. He wrote that she touches his arms and thighs, sits close to him, and behaves flirtatiously, even though she is married with children.

The man explained that he has been working at the company for six months and is now mentally exhausted by the situation. He mentioned that his attempts to discuss the matter with colleagues were unhelpful, as they warned him against reporting or requesting an internal transfer. “I told this to a friend in the office, and he said ‘tu bhi maja le,’ but I don’t want to spoil anyone’s name,” he shared. Many Reddit users expressed concern that cases like these where men face harassment are often dismissed or taken lightly.

While some users empathised with him, others offered practical suggestions. A lawyer advised him to discreetly record instances as evidence before making a complaint, warning that without proof, his case could backfire. Several users compared the situation to the Bollywood film Aitraaz, which portrayed a similar scenario involving a male employee and his female superior. One user even joked that he could pretend to be gay to deter her advances, while another warned him to maintain distance and avoid confrontation. The discussion also touched on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act, with many pointing out that its application towards male victims remains unclear. “POSH is mainly designed for women, and even HR departments confirm it. If his boss turns the tables, he could be in serious trouble,” one commenter noted.

Meanwhile, the PoSH Act, introduced in 2013, was designed to prevent and address workplace sexual harassment. It defines harassment as any unwelcome act, including physical contact, sexual remarks, requests for sexual favours, or any verbal, non-verbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature. The case highlights the need for workplaces to ensure fair mechanisms to handle complaints from all employees irrespective of gender and create truly safe and respectful work environments.
